Tomasz Sledz
UX/UI designer based in Madeira.
I'm Tomasz, a UX/UI designer based in Madeira.
I didn't start in design. I spent most of my twenties and early thirties in learning and development — running training programmes for consultants at Deloitte in London, before that promoting team-role assessments and operating an Ayurveda retreat. Different industries, same underlying question: how do you help people change how they work, and how do you make the new way actually stick?
Coaching was the bridge. From 2021 I worked one-to-one with people on career and life transitions, which is when I started seriously thinking about my own. I moved from London to Madeira, and from L&D to design, around the same time. In 2023 I joined an agency working on banking products for one of Poland's largest banks, and that's been the centre of my work ever since.
Three years in, the connection between coaching and UX is clearer than I expected. Both jobs ask the same thing: pay attention to what people are actually trying to do, not what they say they're doing or what the system makes easy. Both reward patience, structured listening, and resisting the urge to solve too quickly.
How I work
I lead from workshops. The best decisions on these projects came from getting business owners, developers, and other designers in a room together and arguing out the constraints honestly. Working alone in Figma until a big reveal hasn't matched how good design actually happens on the teams I've been part of.
I care about design systems — not as documentation, but as the thing that makes a team's work add up over time. A component that ships once and breaks the next time it's used is worse than no component at all.
I take user testing seriously even when it surfaces things I'd rather not hear. Business stakeholders are usually right about what needs to be in a product; users are usually right about how it needs to behave. Both inputs matter, and they're not interchangeable.
What I'm looking for next
A senior UX/UI role where the product is genuinely complex, the team takes design seriously, and the work matters to the people using it. Banking and fintech remain interesting to me, but the domain isn't the constraint — it's whether the work is honest.
I'm based in Madeira and open to remote-first roles globally, with some openness to hybrid for the right team in the right place.
